Frequently Asked Questions

What mediums do you use?

I paint primarily in watercolor or acrylic (visit my About page to read more on the rationale) however, I have been known to throw in some spray paint, tempera, paint pens, chalk paint, etc. I also swerve from time to time into fiber arts, collage, and mixed media. As far as my surfaces go, basically if it isn’t living I’ll paint on it. But also, if it’s living and will stay still long enough, I’ll also paint on it.

What sizes do you provide?

My standard sizes for pet and home portraits are 5x7” and 8x10”. Next I go to 11x14” and 20x30” for larger pieces. Beyond those sizes we are looking at custom ordered or made surfaces. That means I can make any size you’d like, but it will also increase the cost due to the custom nature of the product. Murals…the limit does not exist.

What is the turn-around time for commissions?

Pet and home portraits typically take 14-21 days to complete and package for pick-up. Larger pieces or work with a higher level of detail can take 28 days or more. Large (36x48” or larger) pieces are at least 6 weeks. Murals range from 2-6 weeks depending on the design. Custom stationery design is about 2 weeks which does not include the timing of the print shop.

What is the design process like for commissions?

Pet and home portraits require reference photos, the more the better. The notes section of the contract is where you will describe any changes or adjustments that you would like made. Fairly straightforward and not a lot of “design”. I do not typically include previews for these pieces.

For other subject matter, first we discuss the concept and review inspiration or reference photos. Then, I will sketch out a design and send it for your review. This sketch is typically included with your contract where you can add notes/changes/adjustments when you provide your signature and deposit. I can provide previews of the work if requested and I will check-in if I have questions.

What reference photos are needed?

Clear photos of the subject, in the highest resolution possible. If inspiration photos are being used we will discuss which elements will be included in the design.

Which original pieces are for sale?

In the ‘Crafted’ shop, some original work is still available. Please use the contact page to inquire about a piece you are interested in.
